The NCAA is providing student-athletes the opportunity to opt out of countable athletically related activities for the 2020-2021 academic year by October I, 2020 in order for their athletic aid not to be reduced or cancelled due to concerns about contracting COVID-19. Opting out after October 1, 2020, the institution would be permitted, but not required to reduce or cancel the student-athletes athletics aid.Â
Â
The extension of eligibility waiver (two semesters) will be available for student-athletes who opt out of countable athletically related activities for the 2020-2021 academic year, regardless of when the student-athlete opts out.   To qualify for the extension of eligibility waiver you must be eligibility during the 2020-2021 academic year. If a student-athlete opts out they will not utilize a season of competition. A student-athlete would only qualify for the extension of eligibility waiver if they opt out for the entire 2020-2021 academic year.
