Virginia State's Rebounding and Paint Dominance Too Much for Bluefield State
Virginia State University extended its winning streak with a commanding 70-53 victory over Bluefield State University in a competitive match up on January 22. The game was characterized by dominant performances in the paint and efficient rebounding, giving Virginia State a clear advantage over its opponents.
Carmen Kweti of Virginia State led the way with a double-double, scoring 13 points and grabbing 19 rebounds. Kweti's presence in the paint was a significant factor in her team's success, as they outscored Bluefield State 48-24 in that area. Her efforts not only created scoring opportunities but also limited Bluefield State's chances on offense.
Tiyanna James contributed 11 points. James' ability to create plays helped keep Virginia State's offense flowing smoothly.
Anii Harris helped contribute with 5 assists and 3 rebounds.
The Virginia State bench also played a crucial role, contributing a total of 29 points, with
Tanayja London leading the reserves by scoring 11 points. This depth ensured that the team maintained a high level of performance even when the starters were resting.
Virginia State shot 43.5% from the field and 63.6% from the free-throw line, reflecting a balanced offensive attack. Despite making only 2 three-pointers out of 12 attempts (16.7%), their dominant inside game and effective fast-break opportunities helped them extend their lead throughout the game.
Virginia State will look to build on this win and continue their strong play, particularly in the paint and on the boards.
