Seton Hill Powers Past Virginia State for the Victory

Greensburg, PA
– In a tightly contested game that featured dramatic momentum shifts and clutch performances, Seton Hill University (SHU) emerged victorious with a 73-61 win over Virginia State University (VSU) in a game that saw both teams battling fiercely throughout.

The game opened with an early lead for Virginia State, as Carmen Kweti gave VSU a 2-0 advantage with a smooth jumper. The Trojans quickly extended their lead, thanks to strong play from Amesha Miller and Mihjae Hayes, who combined for multiple fast-break points. Miller's back-to-back layups, including a fast-break finish, helped VSU surge to a 6-1 lead in the first few minutes.

Seton Hill struggled to respond in the early going, but Hallie Cowan kept the team in the game with key plays. After a missed layup, Cowan converted a free throw and later scored a fast-break layup. Despite these efforts, VSU continued to dominate, with Mihjae Hayes and Amesha Miller capitalizing on Seton Hill's turnovers, helping to extend their lead. VSU's defense also proved formidable, as Anii Harris and Kweti were able to create turnovers, leading to easy transition points.

The second half was marked by VSU's relentless defense, which continued to stifle Seton Hill's offense. With Tanayja London and Mihjae Hayes rotating in and out, the tempo remained fast, and Seton Hill struggled to find its rhythm. Despite some solid individual efforts from Christiana Frye and Cowan, Seton Hill was unable to sustain any consistent offensive flow, as VSU's defense prevented any easy shots.

The game reached a dramatic turning point in the fourth quarter. Helene Cowan gave SHU a boost by hitting a 3-pointer at the 9:09 mark to push their lead to 52-45. However, VSU responded quickly, with Mihjae Hayes scoring inside and Skylar White hitting a 3-pointer at 7:47 to tie the game at 52-52. The game remained close, with both teams exchanging baskets and turnovers, intensifying the atmosphere.

As the clock ticked down, SHU began to pull away. At 7:09, Shaye Bailey sank two crucial free throws, giving SHU a 56-54 lead. Amesha Miller tried to keep VSU in the game with a layup, but Kalich Mia responded for SHU with a layup of her own at 3:59, extending the lead to 64-56. Christiana Frye then hit a 3-pointer at 1:34 to push the SHU lead to 71-57, putting the game out of reach for VSU.

Despite a late layup by Amesha Miller, SHU sealed the victory with a fast-break layup from Hallie Cowan at 00:37, making the score 73-61 and securing the win for Seton Hill.
