Trojans Predicted to Finish Fourth in the CIAA

ETTRICK, VA – The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) announced its 2022 All-CIAA preseason volleyball team, as voted on by the CIAA Volleyball Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors Association while the predicted order of finish which was selected by the head coaches.

Virginia State was selected to finish third in the Northern Division which is two spots lower than last season which is likely due to VSU losing three of our top players to graduation in Jodorrian Taylor, who ranked within the top three on the team in kills last season, Bethany Henry, who led the team in blocks, and Ambria McBride, who was also at the top in kills on the team. We also lost one of our top hitters in Kiara Hill who transferred.

In 2021, Head Coach Amanda Walker, who is now heading into her sixth season as the Trojans Head Volleyball Coach, led the VSU Volleyball team to an impressive 13-3 conference record along with an 15-10 overall record with key victories against  the 2021 CIAA Champions in Fayetteville State, Elizabeth City State and beat Virginia Union 3-0 in both matchups. The Trojans were not fond of the way their season ended a season ago after losing in the Quarterfinals of the 2021 CIAA Volleyball Championship tournament to Claflin 2-3 so, the squad expects to rebound from the early exit and advance to the Conference Championship this upcoming season.

The Trojans will open their season August 26-27 away in Elkins, West Virginia for the Davis & Elkins Season Opening Invitational.
