How It Happened
- The Lions offense got off to a quick start converting on two third downs early in the opening drive. Andrew Banks then converted yet another third down opportunity with a 44-yard bomb down the middle of the field. The shot play left the LU offense on the eight yard line of the Trojans. Kolby Hunter came up with a third down sack to force the Lions to settle for a field goal. The visitors took the lead 3-0 with 8:45 left to go in the first quarter.
- Following a three-and-out from the Trojans, Kymon Pope brought down the quarterback to force a punt. Pope took the ensuing punt 30 yards to the 15 yard line of the Lions. LU stood strong in the red zone forcing a 32-yard Nicholas Woolfolk field goal to knot it up at 3-3 with 2:36 left in the first quarter.
- On the next drive, Chauncey Caldwell completed a screen pass to Darius Hagans that took the Trojans down to the Lion seven yard line. A false start pushed the VSU offense, which put a damper on the drive. Woolfolk would split the uprights from 31 yards away to give the Trojans the lead 6-3 early in the second quarter.
- The following punt hit a member of the LU receiving team, which allowed the Trojans to set up shop at the 49 yard line.
- Caldwell completed 3-of-5 passes that set up a bruising 14-yard score from Darius Hagans. The first touchdown of the game made the score 13-3 with 2:33 remaining in the half.
- The Trojans took the lead into the locker room 13-3.
- Due to a delay of game on the LU kickoff team, VSU was able to start their drive at the 35. Hagans and Upton Bailey combined for 21 yards on the drive while Caldwell hooked up with Andre Jackson for a gain of 18 yards. The drive would eventually stall out to force Woolfolk's third field goal of the game as he hit this one from 33 yards away to make it 16-3 with 10:43 left in the third quarter.
- Following a failed fourth down attempt, Caldwell capped a 10-play drive with a 3-yard rush to the right side of the defense to make the score 23-3 with 14:09 left in the game.
- Pope made yet another play in the game as he intercepted a pass from Banks to essentially allow the VSU offense to set up shop on the opponent's 45 yard line.
- The game would end with a victory formation for the Trojans with the final score remaining at 23-3.
