ETTRICK, Va. -- The Virginia State University women's tennis team is set to host the Panthers of Virginia Union University on April 6. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m. at the VSU Tennis Complex.
The Trojans (8-4, 5-3) will look to bounce back from their loss to the Rams of Winston-Salem State University yesterday at home (5-4) snapping their four-match winning streak.
The Trojans (8-4) had a 2-1 advantage after doubles competition. At the No. 1 doubles, junior Sydney Yao (Alexandria, VA) and senior Tamisha Richardson (Anguilla, Caribbean) collected an 8-6 victory, while sophomore Felicia Tucker (Smithfield, VA) and sophomore Christina Washington (Norfolk, VA) were the 8-6 victors at the No. 2 doubles.
Freshman Deja Lovitt (Mount Vernon, NY) and sophomore Katlyn Kearney (Norfolk, VA) fell 8-6 at the No. 3 doubles. In singles, the Trojans were defeated at No. 1, No. 2, No.4 and No. 5 singles as the Rams (7-6) came away with the win over Virginia State.
The Panthers of Virginia Union University will enter the contest (5-5, 3-4) with a 5-4 victory over Salem University on April 4.
The last time the two teams met was on March 28, where the Trojans secured a 9-0 victory over Virginia Union on the road.
