Box Score BOWIE, Md. – The Virginia State University women's tennis team fell short, 5-2, to the Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University in the semifinals round of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Tennis Championship this afternoon.
Virginia State edged Johnson C. Smith in doubles competition, including (8-2, 8-6) victories in doubles No. 1-2.
Sydney Yao and
Tamisha Richardson won a 8-2 decision at No. 1 doubles for the Trojans, while
Felicia Tucker and
Christina Washington went 8-6 at No. 2 doubles for VSU to go ahead with an early 2-1 lead.
The Golden Bulls were able to get four single wins to secure the victory. Freshman Rayven Todd got things started with a 6-1, 6-1 win at #4 singles while Cierra Turner added a 6-2, 6-1 win at #5 singles. Aria Springfield and Jada Strickland closed the matches when they took a 6-4, 6-4 and (6-1, 3-6,6-2) win at No.2 and 3 singles spot to advance.
With the loss, Virginia State (12-5, 8-3 CIAA) is looking to get back to work and focus on things for next season.
