ETTRICK, VA – The Virginia State University women's tennis team earned a CIAA Championship runner-up finish on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Virginia State University.
Chowan University took home the CIAA Championship title with 5-0 victory over the Trojans.
The Trojans opened play with three hard-fought losses in doubles play as the team fell 8-2 at #1 doubles, 8-6 at #2 doubles and 8-4 at #3 doubles. Although things looked grim as the team headed into singles play, VSU continued to show pride in singles play.
Brittany Uzzell took the loss at the #2 singles, falling 6-0 and then retiring while
Jessica Smith succumbed, 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles.
