Samantha Edwards of Virginia State University was named Atlantic Region women's indoor track athlete of the year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Association (USTFCCA), announced on March 2.

The senior from Elmont, N.Y., scored 26 points at the CIAA Championships to lead Virginia State to the team title. She won the 400 Meters and finished second in the 200 Meters and 800 Meters at the 2012 CIAA Championships. Edwards' season-best times of 53.95 in the 400 Meters and 24.24 in the 200 Meters rank first and fifth in NCAA Division II, respectively.

Samantha will be on hand for the NCAA Division II Indoor track & Field Championships next weekend, March 9-10, in Mankato, Minn. NCAA.com will provide live coverage of the national championships.
