Box Score ETTRICK, Va.- Virginia State University Trojans secured a place in the NCAA Division II Super Region One Second Round Playoffs by defeating Long Island University- Post on November 22. The final score was 28-17.
This was the 10
th straight win for the Trojans as they made their first NCAA Playoff debut.
VSU kept the Pioneers on their toes in the first quarter with the first touchdown of the game coming from sophomore quarterback
Tarian Ayres. After being out last week, Ayres came through for the Trojans completing 9 passes for 151 yards.
Senior defensive back
Andre Rawls found an opening, clinching a pass interception for an 83 yard touchdown. This was the first touchdown for Rawls in his college football career. "This was my chance to make a play for the team," said Rawls. "Like I always tell our defense, bend but don't break!"
At the end of the first half the Pioneers were leading 17-14. The Trojans put pressure on LIU-Post in the second half. Sophomore running back
Kavon Bellamy led the Trojans with 145 rushing yards and ran in for two touchdowns. Staying focused on the field, Bellamy simply said, "I had a job to do."
 "Matthew Hillquist had a solid week and was confident," said Scott. He was proud of the special teams.
As the Trojans prepare for the Second Round NCAA Playoffs, they will continue "business as usual."Â "Nothing will change for next week," said Scott. "We find a way to come out on top; we refuse to lose."
VSU will be going up against the Bloomsburg University for the NCAA Division II Super Region One Second Round Playoffs on Saturday, November 29 in Bloomsburg, Pa. Kickoff is scheduled for noon.
