Coach Gene Thompson was selected to the State of Delaware Interscholastic Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Coach Thompson is one of three assistant women's basketball coaches and the head men's tennis coach at VSU. He is the eighth coach to be inducted and will be recognized at the University of Delaware on March 16^th, 2013.
 
Before coming to VSU, Thompson coached at Wilmington High from 1977-99, leading the Red Devils to state titles in 1978, '83 and '88. Coach Thompson was also named Conference Basketball Coach of the Year nine times. In 2009, he was elected to the Delaware Afro-American Hall of Fame.
